Super Mario Odyssey producer says game is “considerably finished”

Although Nintendo's initial line-up for the Nintendo Switch is fairly thin, they have some pretty big titles sprinkled throughout 2017. The long-awaited game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, will finally release alongside the Switch on March 3rd, we'll get Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a couple months after, Bethesda will drop The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in the fall, and the year will close with Super Mario Odyssey!

Many rumors prior to the Nintendo Switch event last week indicated that the new Mario title would launch with the Switch or at least sometime shortly after it released. Many were somewhat shocked to see that the game was given a very vague "Holiday 2017" release window, especially some industry insiders who know things about the game's development. It left many wondering on how the game is actually shaping up behind closed doors. Turns out, the game might actually be done or very close to being completed.

During a stage show for the Italian plumber's next adventure, several details were revealed for the game including how close to completion it is. Producer Yoshiaki Koizumi claimed the highly anticipated title is "considerably finished" but not much more was said. It's possible he means that the game is just content/feature complete meaning you can play the game start to finish, but it still needs some polish and testing done.

Nintendo may have just pushed the game back to space out their first-party releases since they currently don't have tons of brand new games coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2017. You can click here to see a list of all confirmed games for the Nintendo Switch.

The Nintendo Switch releases March 3rd, 2017 and will cost $299.99, if you haven't pre-ordered you may have a tough time finding one at launch.
