Super Mario Odyssey, the latest in the most iconic video game series ever, released last week in all regions of the world on the Nintendo Switch. We won't mince words: The game is fantastic. It's already snowballing into a huge success within a mere three days.
According to Nintendo's latest financial briefing, they've estimated the game sales exceed 2 million units in the first three days of availability. What's more, the game was released with Holiday 2017 in mind, where Nintendo's sales typically are highest and we haven't even hit the season yet.
"While about 7 million units of Nintendo Switch hardware have been delivered into the hands of our consumers around the world, we estimate that the global sellthrough of Super Mario Odyssey has already exceeded 2 million units in just its first 3 days. The holiday sales season will soon go into full swing, and we plan to make more Nintendo Switch systems available in the market. We will endeavor to further increase the number of consumers who want to purchase Super Mario Odyssey, and eventually we would like the game to be seen as an evergreen title that has longevity in the market beyond this holiday season."
Since the dawn of Nintendo's video game career, its users have flocked to Super Mario titles. It would be no surprise at all to see the number of Super Mario Odyssey sales to reach, if not exceed the number of Nintendo Switches out there, due to the still existing supply issues of Nintendo Switches staying on shelves.
Super Mario Odyssey launched on October 27 and is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
