Super Mario Run was downloaded 2.85 million times in its first day of availability – becoming the biggest launch in App Store history.
Those figures are according to analytics firm Apptopia, which says Super Mario Run annihilated the other big mobile game this year, Pokemon GO, which was downloaded 900,000 times in its first day of release.
Super Mario Run was released on December 15, but it’s not really a fair comparison since Pokemon GO was slowly rolled out, jumping to 5.6 million downloads by day number three.
If those number continue, Super Mario Run could also beat Pokemon GO’s other record as the most downloaded title on the App Store in its first-week.
The game’s popularity is no surprise as Nintendo went on a full-on marketing blitz, even making an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Nintendo is expecting the new mobile game to make as much as $70 million within its first month.
You can download a free trial of Super Mario Run right now on iOS or grab the full game for $9.99. It’s expected to release on Android sometime next year.
