Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has dethroned Mario Kart 8 as the fastest-selling Wii U title ever in the U.S. market. Through the three-day period of November 21 through November 23, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U sold more than 490,000 physical and digital units combined.
“The Nintendo holiday is off to a great start, but there’s a lot of work left to do and a few more surprises in store for our fans,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With great deals coming on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and great content like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker launching next week, Nintendo will offer shoppers the best combination of fun and value this holiday season.”
The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. is experiencing similar success, having already sold 1.2 million combined physical and digital units in the United States. It sold more than 485,000 units in October, and has already become the best-selling handheld title in 2014. It has also become the 10th 3DS game to sell at least one million units in the U.S., joining Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, and New Super Mario Bros. 2.
