Super Smash Bros. on 3DS sells 705k in 2 days

In the two days that followed the launch of Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS on October 3, enough units were sold to place it as the number 4 best-selling SKU for the month. More than 705k units sold, with 135k of those coming through the Nintendo eShop. But the game also helped drive hardware sales, as more than 140k units of the 3DS family were sold in September — an increase of 55 percent over August sales.

The Wii U also saw a double digit increase of sales in September. Wii U hardware sales increase by 50 percent over sales in August. Part of the reason has to be because of two pretty good games for the system — Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8. Launching on September 26, Hyrule Warriors sold more than 190k units in the U.S., while Mario Kart 8 sold 60k in its fifth month on the market.

Things should only get better for the Wii U, as Bayonetta 2 (a Wii U exclusive) will release on October 26, and Super Smash Bros. Wii U will release on November 21. Meanwhile, the 3DS will be receiving Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire on November 21.

I am curious how well Super Smash Bros. sells on the Wii U, and whether owners of a Wii U and 3DS will double dip and purchase it on both platforms.
