SuperBot Entertainment: Relationship with Sony ended ‘on good terms’

As most Sony fans are probably aware, yesterday Sony and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale studio, SuperBot Entertainment, ended their "working agreement." Though I was saddened by the news, as I was actually one of the few supporters of PlayStation All-Stars, the studio today released a statement regarding its future plans which painted a positive picture of the separation.

In a statement to Kotaku, SuperBot's director of operations David Yang confirmed the relationship with SCEA has "ended on good terms. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done."

It's unclear if the PlayStation All-Stars sales had any effect on this decision. Back in November of last year, Sony said sales of the brawler were "right on target with expectations."

As for SuperBot's plans, Yang assured the studio "will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey."

Unfortunately, it looks like a staff reduction is likely. "We don't have a reduction plan as of yet, however it is unlikely we can continue with our current work force for an extended period of time," Yang followed-up with Kotaku. "We are still working things out and hope to continue on with as many of us as possible."
