Superman will finally make his first appearance on ‘Supergirl’

Supergirl's cousin is coming...what was his name again?

For the first time on the series, Superman will make a fully actualized appearance on the CW's Supergirl next season.

From the beginning, CBS' 'Supergirl' has struggled to maintain its buoyancy in the ratings. The revival series, which hearkens back to the original 1984 movie, has had to compete with the likes of other DC Comics adapted shows like FOX's Gotham, and the CW's highly-successful Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. Beginning to suffer from the ratings war, Supergirl producer, Greg Berlanti, used his means as the producer for the aforementioned CW shows to create the first multiverse crossover story where The Flash managed to make a cameo. The endeavor was a blatant experiment to see how Supergirl would fare with a different superhero influence…and it worked like a charm! CBS making the call to finally end 'Supergirl' allowed Berlanti to use the ratings spike from the team-up episode as a bridge to bring the show to the CW, which will officially come to pass with the start of season two.

Up until this point, Clark Kent/Superman has only been mentioned in passing or shown briefly as a fluttering cape in the distance, never really making landfall as an actual character. Now that 'Supergirl' has made a move for the better, the network has officially begun the process of finding an actor to don the red cape as the famed cousin in the two-part season premiere. Fans have been hoping that the last TV Superman, Tom Welling from 'Smallville', would be the one to make his triumphant return and give fans what would essentially be the continuation of the series, which ended in 2011. Considering SV already featured its own version of Supergirl played by Laura Vandervoort, its not likely this would happen, but hopefully a shortlist of potential actors would give some insight to the direction they may be taking Superman once its available.
