Surprise! A new Call of Duty will be released in 2014

Like clockwork, a new Call of Duty will be released next year.

Speaking during Activision's Q3 2013 earnings call last night, CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed the new installment, stating: "Despite short-term uncertainties, as we look forward to 2014, we have a very strong product pipeline. We expect multiple new releases across our major franchises, including the first Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls, along with the PS4 version of Diablo III and significant and exciting new content for World of Warcraft.

"We also expect to launch new Call of Duty and Skylanders titles and a major new potential franchise with Bungie's Destiny."

Not that this should come as a surprise as we've had a Call of Duty title release every year since 2005. However, with Call of Duty: Ghosts being met with lukewarm reception from critics, you'd think Activision wouldn't be so quick to announce further plans to milk its popular franchise.

I'm sure we all knew another Call of Duty was in the pipeline, but a little break from the constant reminder might help solve some of the fatigue apparently setting in. Activision has yet to announce actual consumer sales results for Ghosts, but yesterday the publisher confirmed its latest installment has sold-in more than $1 billion into retail stores worldwide.
