Star Wars: The Force Awakens has shook the movie industry to its core since release, breaking a seemingly endless list of records and now movie-goers cannot wait for Rogue One: A Star Wars story's 2016 release.
A new survey, conducted by online ticketing service Fandango, reveals that the upcoming Star Wars film is the most anticipated of 2016.
The Lucasfilm production pipped the likes of Finding Dory, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Star Trek: Beyond to obtain top spot.
Here are the results of Fandango's 'Most Anticipated Movie' survey:
For those that aren't too familiar with the new Star Wars spin-off, the film will be set some time before the original Star Wars trilogy in 1977. The story will follow a group of rebels trying to get a hold of plans for the Empire's weapon, the iconic Death Star.
Although the consensus seems to be pretty optimistic surrounding Rogue One, many fans will be hoping for something better than the prequel trilogy, which arguably left much to be desired.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams, focused a lot more on real-life capture and film as opposed to CGI effects, and although Abrams isn't involved in this movie in particular, fans will be expecting more of the same – hence the overwhelming anticipation.
Rogue One: A Star Wars story is set for a December 16th release, and will be the first of Star Wars' Anthology collection.
