Stockholm officials used Cities: Skylines to lay out the logistics of the city's next public transportation system, an impressive testament both to developer Colossal Order’s city sim and the pervasiveness of gaming. Who knows what Sweden will do with Cities’ snowfall DLC?
Sweden’s project will be a focal point for the documentary My Urban Playground, which chronicles how games like Cities: Skylines are being used in real-world situations. Naturally, Minecraft is another touchstone.
My Urban Playground took a stab at Kickstarter to secure funding, but raised just two percent of its target goal. Nevertheless, the documentary lived on and will debut at the upcoming South by Southwest trade show.
“This feature-length documentary … will follow the journey of three people navigating the space where urban planning and gaming meet,” the film’s Kickstarter reads. Of course, My Urban Playground may very well have changed since its Kickstarter flop, but its topic clearly has not.
