System Shock remake launches its Kickstarter with a free demo available to everyone

Probably a smart way to get people invested

After it was previously announced that the original System Shock would be getting a full-on remake, developer, Nightdive Studios has launched their planned Kickstarter today. What we didn't know is that the campaign would be releasing a free demo that is available to everyone even if you haven't donated. You can grab the demo on Steam, GOG.com, or Humble Bundle and the campaign itself has proven to be a success in its early hours, accruing just over $200,000 as of this writing.

System Shock originally released in 1994 and has served as the primary inspiration for several modern juggernauts including BioShock, Dead Space, and Deus Ex.

System Shock's target goal is $900,000, and given what it has amassed already there's little doubt that it's going to shatter the goal. Currently, the game is slated to release on PC and Xbox One, according to the campaign's rewards section, but no mention of a PS4 version. The campaign will end exactly one month from today on July 28, 2016, so you have plenty of time to donate if you so choose.

The game is currently expected to ship in December of 2017.
