Void Interactive has opened up preorders for their tactical-first-person-shooter Ready or Not. The team-based action game takes heavy clues from genre-classics like the SWAT series and early Rainbow Six games. Check out the lengthy trailer below to see the game and its mechanics in detail.
It’s undoubtedly the era of multiplayer gaming. Whether it’s the ability to play with or against other human players casually or engage in fierce competitive matches, online gaming and the massive push from big publishers into it is visible all around us. Service games like Destiny, Anthem are getting more and more the norm. One thing we can observe is that by aiming to amass a large player base, many of these games can become more casual. This isn’t a bad thing in itself but the days of hardcore tactical shooters has come to an end a while ago.
That is, until Ready or Not was unveiled. The unapologetic shooter leans heavily on titles of that niche genre. Especially the later SWAT games which put players in command of a small elite police unit. Similarly, Read or Not is set on the highly-trained SWAT units whose duty is to solve delicate and dangerous situations.
Players will be able to either team-up with friends and complete missions or go solo with AI teammates. These can be ordered via voice controls or button prompts. What immediately sticks out is the developer’s adhesion to realism and deploying real-world tactics and gadgets. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill shooter. Instead, players will have to make good use of planning, carefully clearing areas room by room, all the while using flashbang grenades, stealthy cameras and more. You can get a very in-depth look at the mechanics on display in the video.
Ready or Not is set to come out this August as an Alpha Access for customers who preorder the Support package for a hefty $119.99. Standard preorders cost just a fraction at $39.99 but buyers will have to wait much longer, until June 2020 to play when the Beta Access starts. You can preorder the game on its website here.
