Take a peek at some behind-the-scenes footage of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

A franchise first, the third game in the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy won't be hitting store shelves until early 2014. That won't stop Square Enix from letting people take a look at the development process of the game.

Narrated by Ali Hillis, Lightning herself, we get a deeper look at some of the inspiration behind the game, as well as a brief history of the franchise, going into slight detail about the various inspirations and design choices that both bind each and every game together, yet making sure that they're all distinctive from one another.

If you're at all interested in the upcoming game, or have an affinity for Final Fantasy games, definitely give this video a watch. You'll not only learn a little more about the third game's lore, but you'll also get a glimpse at how Square holds this franchise very close to their heart.

Just know Square Enix, we will always remember that Final Fantasy ATB mobile game. We'll never forget….
