Take-Two won’t ‘milk a franchise’ like GTA 5

Game publisher Take-Two has no plans to milk their popular franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and BioShock for all the money they can. Sentiments like this are not hard to come by when it comes to Take-Two.

In 2013, Take-Two's President, Karl Slatoff, said that annualizing GTA would "degrade the franchise. A year later, Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated the fact that they had no intentions of releasing a new GTA every year.

Recently, Take-Two's President Karl Slatoff took to a business event to make the thought even more concrete.

"We don't intend to change annual strategy because of product fatigue. [Take-Two] creates franchise value and [releases have] to be managed deliberately," said Slatoff as noted by GameSpot. "It's tempting to have continuous releases and milk a franchise as far as you can, [but] we've seen that fatigue in other franchises in the games industry. With almost every single franchise for us, the latest release is bigger than the one before."

With Take-Two saying they don't want any of their popular games to suffer 'fatigue' it makes sense why Red Dead and BioShock haven't seen any new games recently. Take-Two considers them both a 'permanent franchise,' along with Evolve.

That said, Take-Two seems perfectly OK with milking GTA Online for all it's worth. The online feature for GTA V creates tons of money for the company, which is more than likely why we haven't seen single-player DLC for the game.
