The West has seen its fair share of censored games from the far East. Typically, we see clothing changed, character actions altered or scenes removed altogether. In 2016, we heard about God Eater getting censored, Star Ocean 5 characters getting bigger underwear and entire portions of Fire Emblem Fates getting removed for Wester audiences.
To finish off the year of various censorships, it appears as though Bandai Namco is censoring Tales of Berseria, despite having insisted they wouldn't. This time, the censoring isn't found in alternate clothing, but an alternate scene.
According to side-by-side images supplied by Shoduken (seen below) the Japanese version of Tales of Berseria will include the imagery of a child being murder, while the Western version will not.
Producer Yasuhiro Fukaya stated that the game wouldn't be altered for the West in an interview with DualShockers. However, his statement came when prompted with the question of whether or not a character would retain her iconic outfit. "I believe that those who support the Tales Of series like to have exactly the same content as the Japanese Version. We believe it's ideal and the best option to bring exactly the same game experience and design to Western countries."
It's interesting that they chose to censor this scene in particular, as there's another game that shows a child's death in multiple ways, that game is Limbo.
