Tales of Symphonia series to return as HD collection

Namco Bandai is publishing both Tales of Symphonia and its sequel, Dawn of the New World, in a HD collection destined for worldwide release on PlayStation 3 in early 2014.

The company is tentatively calling the two-game bundle Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. It launches first in Japan on October 10. The original came to Nintendo GameCube in 2004, and the second title released for Wii in 2008. Namco Tales Studio developed both role-playing games, in which the heroes must save their world as well as one parallel to it.

In addition to new HD graphics, Chronicles will feature extra content, including new costumes for characters Lloyd and Genis that are inspired by the PlayStation 2 title Tales of the Abyss.

Tales of Symphonia is the fifth core entry in Namco's Tales series. It could seriously benefit from the visual upgrade, from the looks of it.

Below is the video announcement from series producer Hideo Baba. And take a look at one of the first screenshots (pictured here — thanks, Operation Rainfall).
