Yesterday, a listing went up on Target's website for a Bethesda title based on the Game of Thrones series, which has since been removed. Naturally, this caused a bit of an uproar, but it seems that it was all for nothing. A Target representative released an official statement (reported by Forbes) that the game was "not a real product" and apologized for any confusion.
Part of the reason that fans were getting so excited was that there had been previous rumblings of a Bethesda Game of Thrones title since E3 2017, which never came to pass. That game, however, was said to be "freemium," so it wouldn't make sense for Target to "leak" a listing for that kind of game.
Also, as Forbes points out, the listing itself was a bit sketchy due to the fact that it didn't contain much information and didn't look like a placeholder listing on top of the fact that it was live for so long before being taken down. Generally, a retailer will actively look for any information that's not supposed to get out on their own site, and Game of Thrones being such a huge brand would have warranted extra attention.
So the fact that it's obvious that they weren't looking for any leaks would seem to suggest that there wasn't anything to look for in the first place. That said, a Bethesda-developed Game of Thrones game sounds pretty sweet on the ears. Just not the "freemium" part.
