Gen Z might sound like a Pokemon generation, but it's a term that will be haunting a generation, just like the term Millennial is haunting Gen Z's predecessor. Anyone born between the mid-1990's to early 2000s should get used to the term "Gen Z," mostly because it will be the term that is applied to them by companies trying to sell them something.
In looking to more thoroughly define Gen Z's interests, Google teamed up with YouGoc and Gutcheck to hold three research studies on Gen Z. The study revealed a detailed look at what brands 1,100 13 – 17-year-olds were interested in, as well as what activities they enjoyed, what they read, and more.
As far as video games go, Gen Z males thought video games were at the top if the fun meter.
"Video games were on top of the coolness scale for boys. They think video games are cool not only for their storylines, wide variety, and ability to escape to a virtual reality, but also for the ability to connect with friends."
As for which games they thought were cool, well, it's a sad day for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare… Black Ops beat it (doubly sad for Battlefield).
Now, here's the kicker, Millennials choose PlayStation as the brand they are both more aware of and think is cooler, Gen Z flips that. The top 10 coolest brands, according to Gen Z are the following:
It looks like all those Xbox and Dorito partnerships paid off. As for other things related to technology and the gaming industry, Gen Z really likes iOS and VR/AR. Oh and Nintendo made it on the list, but more towards the middle, mixed with Dominos, Target, and Starbucks.
