Tekken 7 director explains why a Season Pass exists for the game

Earlier this week Tekken 7 was hit with a release date, a collector's edition, and detailed exclusive content for the PlayStation 4. The subject of exclusive content or even plans of additional game content (DLC) before the game even releases can be a bit of a sore subject for gamers.

These days, it's become common to have DLC planned out before a game's launch. On top of that, all of that DLC is sold as part of a Season Pass before it is even detailed. Tekken 7 is one of the many games that will be offering a Season Pass and according to director and chief producer Katsuhiro Harada, it is a necessary evil.

Taking to Twitter, Harada revealed why the Season Pass exists for Tekken.

"In the past, we had to stop all updates and support within 2 months after launch (Because no development Budget). With Season Pass, we can guarantee one year of Additional Development Cost and development Team (Retention of development team structure) from our Company/Publisher.

"Also, we do not sell classic Tekken characters, Paid DLC will be special content. With this system, we can do free updates and support for a long time."

It seems as though purchasing the Season Pass means helping the studio support and update the game for more than a short while after release.

How do you feel about Season Passes and DLC for games?
