To nobody's surprise, developer/publisher Telltale Games has confirmed there will be a second season to the Game of Thrones video game series. What's more, it's already in development.
"When we initially announced the series in 2013, we let everyone know this would be a multi-title, multiyear partnership with HBO. After this week's finale, I'm pleased to officially confirm that there will be a second season of Telltale's Game of Thrones series, and that it's currently in development," Telltale's CEO and co-founder Kevin Bruner revealed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Season One of Telltale's Game of Thrones wrapped up this week with the release of Episode 6: The Ice Dragon. Despite it concluding the season, it failed to resolve many of the season's major stories. Although Bruner couldn't reveal much, he did say the choices you made throughout the season will play a "huge role" in season two.
"The questions left on the table at the conclusion of season one, who survived and who didn't, as well as all the other choices you made play a huge role in the second season. We've been planning the second season all along, but I really shouldn't be revealing more than that."
As previously mentioned, development of season two is underway, and Bruner likened it to that of a television show. Much of the time is being spent in the writer's rooms with writers, designers, directors, and others across the studio.
"It's incredibly similar to how TV often spends so much time in preproduction and planning before moving into actually shooting. It's from then on that we take the live development aspect into play, observing the audience and their feedback as we're able to adjust and build upon the experience along the way," Bruner explained.
For those unfamiliar, Telltale's Game of Thrones is an adaptation of the bestselling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. It tells the story of House Forrester, a noble family from the north of Westeros, loyal to the Starks of Winterfell, who find themselves caught up in the events surrounding the War of the Five Kings.
