Telltale's Game of Thrones was one of the studio's more anticipated titles when it released back in 2014, but now almost three years later, a second season still hasn't made its way to release. This is, in part because the studio has veered into other major IPs such as Minecraft, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Batman, which have all proven to be more successful than the disappointingly quiet Game of Thrones season.
Telltale's Job Stauffer sat down with Eurogamer to talk all things Telltale and revealed that the series is indeed "on hold."
He said:
"Not long after the conclusion of the first season we said would be continuing, and we had designs on the future of Telltale's Game of Thrones. Right now that is on hold. We haven't announced it, which does not mean it's never coming but I think right now we're anxious to get back into Wolf, Walking Dead and Batman and see where things go with the narrative of the [Game of Thrones] show before we really come back to the table with something we're excited about."
When asked definitively when or if the studio was planning on coming back to the series, Stauffer would not commit one way or the other, saying that they were content with "being huge Game of Thrones fans" for now. He did admit that he wanted to know what was next for House Forrester and Co. but that "we want to know what happens next in the show before we talk about the hows and whens of our return to Westeros."
To be fair, Telltale has previously said that they weren't working on a follow-up to The Wolf Among Us either, which ended being a bit of misdirection. So, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the studio could return, but it seems likely that it won't happen until after the conclusion of the show. Whenever that'll be.
