Terraria creator Andrew Spinks has announced a sequel to developer Re-Logic's indie sandbox game, but he has yet to start development.
The indie game debuted on PC in 2011 and has made its way to a number of additional platforms with the help of publisher 505 Games. Today Spinks confirmed to Rock, Paper, Shotgun that Terraria 2 is a go.
"It’s a ways out, but it’s gonna have a lot in common with the original," he said. "It’s gonna be quite different as well. I really want to expand on the whole Terraria universe.”
Spinks later clarified to Joystiq that he has not yet begun development. "I have a list of features and mechanics I want the game to have, but that is the extent of the development at this point," he said.
He told RPS, "In Terraria 2, I really want to have infinite worlds so you’re not just stuck to one world. You can travel anywhere. I want more biome diversity in that, too. There’s a lot of stuff [I want to add and change].”
Today Re-Logic released update 1.2 for the original Terraria and will wrap up "endgame progression" and any final updates in the months ahead.
