Tetris Blitz reinvents a slow classic for iOS and Android

Electronic Arts has put a new spin on Tetris with a mobile game called Tetris Blitz, which is now free to play on app stores (iOS and Android) worldwide.

Players have two minutes to clear as many rows of blocks as possible. You can even trigger chain reactions as rogue blocks fall into new lines.

The game includes power-ups — like Magnet, Laser, and Time Shift — to make the classic even more interesting. EA plans to introduce a new one every week. Of course, some of these are free, and others will cost you.

White outlines designate where new groups will fall; tapping them sends the blocks straight there.

Beware, though: Tetris Blitz is said to have some nasty in-app purchases — even though the frenetic pace should make it more fun to play.
