The former PlayStation 4 exclusive Tetris Effect is now out on PC. This newest extremely colorful reimagination of the puzzler classic is chock full of visual effects which should make it an experience like no other Tetris game before. With the addition of a Virtual Reality game mode, it’s also the first time gamers can play the addicting block-puzzler in VR. While on PS4 PSVR was naturally the only device where VR gameplay was possible, on PC users have the choice between Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. With both requiring SteamVR for VR gameplay despite Tetris Effect being an Epic Games Store exclusive and not even being available on Steam.
Naturally, internet users are taking this official piece of info from the game’s Epic store page FAQ as proof that Tetris Effect will rather sooner than later will make its way to Steam. DSO Gaming reported on the interesting finding in the game’s FAQ and Epic Games even got in touch with them to clarify the situation. As such, we learn that even the Occulus Rift requires SteamVR which is baffling. Oculus Rift games on PC usually just use the company’s own Oculus VR software. This only further backs rumors that the developers of Tetris Effect, Monstars and Resonair, developed the game with Steam in mind. Of course, in regular 2D mode played on a monitor or TV, the game will not require Steam VR nor Oculus VR.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Epic Games Store exclusive games are only exclusive for a limited period of time. In pursuit o establishing their digital PC store, Epic has been aggressively making deals with publishers and developers to release their games only on their stores, and sometimes just not on Steam. A rather unseen tactic on the PC but well-known on consoles. How long Epic will continue doing these deals remains to be seen, or even if they achieve their goal.
For now, Tetris Effect on PC is only available on the Epic Games Store.
