Over-the-top first-person shooter Rage 2 also made an appearance at this year’s The Game Awards. In tow, it brought us a shiny new Open World Trailer and its release date. On May 14, next year players will get their hands on Bethesda’s crazy shooter. Watch the new trailer!
Created in tandem by both id Software and Avalanche Studios, Rage 2 is taking the 2010’s original formula and amps every aspect up to eleven. Gone is the drab world and horrific atmosphere of an utterly destroyed world. It’s still a post-apocalyptic setting but the emphasis is heavily on color and fun this time. A welcome change since the original Rage didn’t really live up to the hype.
One key feature to Rage 2’s hopeful success is no doubt the inclusion of Avalanche S tudios to the development. The Swedish studio has long proven to be masters of creating large open game worlds which are also fun to explore and combat in, with their Just Cause series.
Id Software on the other hand has gotten back to its FPS roots with 2016’s Doom and is putting their experience in fast-paced and gratifying shooting to good use. A fine pedigree of talent which should make Rage 2 a game to keep an eye out for action fans.
The new trailer showcases the breadth of Rage 2’s world nicely. From ravaged bandit camps to swamps, settlements to the return of Mutant Bash TV, Rage’s twisted game show, the world of Rage 2 is offering a ton of variety and improves on pretty much every aspect of the original.
Of course, the vehicular gameplay doesn’t come short either. Violent races across the desert and armed convoys straight out of Avalanche’s Mad Max should scratch that itch for metal carnage plenty.
Pre-orders are already live at the game’s website and it looks like Rage 2 is following the steps of Bethesda’s other recent game Fallout 76 and is only available for purchase through their own digital store, the Bethesda Launcher. There’s no official statement right now, so take that info with a grain of salt.
