The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s new gameplay mechanics detailed

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game is shaping up to be quite, well, amazing. Beenox has released a brand new developer walkthrough showing off PS4 gameplay while highlighting a few gameplay changes players can expect this time around.

For starters, Beenox has completely revamped Spider-Man's web-swinging mechanics. Rather than having his web attach to some invisible point in mid-air, Spider-Man's web will now actually use the nearby buildings. Because of this, you'll be able to actually control which arm you use to swing from using the left and right triggers. If the building is on the right, you'll want to swing using his right arm. If there's no building, you're going to fall.

"Controlling separate sides of Spider-Man with separate sides of your brain has a great psychological effect, and it really immerses you even deeper into your character, particularly when you have to decide to use the right or left trigger based on the physical location of buildings as you swing through the city," explained creative director Thomas Wilson.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will also be taking more of a player-driven approach through a new "Hero or Menace" system. The city will react to your actions (or inactions) throughout the game, resulting in real consequences for Spider-Man and the city as a whole. Additionally, Beenox is giving a more in-depth look at Spider-Man's personal life through the perspective of Peter Parker. Not only will this allow you to experience life as the unmasked Peter Parker, but it also allows for a wardrobe. In your closet, you'll find multiple outfits that offer different stats and bonuses that will suit your play style needs.

Lastly, the walkthrough offers us a look at the combat section of the game, now improved with an open, outdoor environment that gives you the space needed to explore and experiment.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due out on April 29 for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, and PC.
