The Ancient Gods expansion playable without having Doom Eternal

Bethesda has shared the welcome news that the upcoming first story expansion for Doom Eternal, The Ancient Gods; Part One, is a fully standalone experience that doesn’t require the base game to be played. Check out the trailer for the expansion here!

Doom is back and better than ever before. After 2016’s reboot experiment that bucked the trend of modern FPS games, ID Software truly hit it out the park with this year’s Doom Eternal. More content, more weapons, just everything is bigger and more badass.

“Most people would associate DLC with being of smaller scope – it’s kind of like the made for TV version of the movie, and the movie was the main game,” Hugo continues. “For us, this is very much like a two-part film – this is every bit as grand as the main game was.” – Hugo Martin via PCGamesN

The game is now soon receiving its first DLC in the form of The Ancient Gods, Part One. But unlike what gamers have come to expect from DLC this is more aking to old-school expansion packs of yore. In an interview with PCGamesN, Game Director Hugo Martin details that the two-part The Ancient Gods campaign will be a massive expansion that ought the rival the main campaign even.

Not only that but to entice gamers, even more, to try it out, The Ancient Gods will not require players to own Doom Eternal. Everyone will be able to jump into the meaty standalone expansion. But to be honest, you’d be doing yourself a great disservice to not play Doom Eternal.

The Ancient Gods, Part One is slated to launch on October 20th for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
