The Assassin’s Creed movie will be more based in the present day rather than the past

The upcoming Assassin's Creed movie has recently received its first trailer and it created some buzz on the video game adaptation film. Despite the poor choice of trailer music, fans were generally impressed with it, leaving them with thinking that this might be the first "good" video game movie.

However, this recently shared tidbit might bring some unexpected disappointment to the fans. In a recent set interview with IGN,  EP Pat Crowley confirmed that the film will be more based on the present day rather than the past, giving the movie a ratio of 65% present to 35% past.

To defend the reasoning of basing the movie more in the present rather than the past, Crowly had this to say:

“There are certain things that we absolutely want to respect the game, but we also want to bring new elements to the game […] This isn’t a video game that we’re making. We’re trying to make a cinematic experience, so there are new things that we have to introduce.”

Assassin's Creed will star Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch. He will adopt his ancestor, Aguilar, memories as he enters the animus. The storyline will be completely original and will not interfere with the long-running video game franchise. It has also been noted that the sequel has already been greenlit, despite fans just receiving its first official trailer last week.

Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21, 2016.
