It's time for the other Star Wars movies to take bird form. Rovio has announced that Angry Birds Star Wars 2, a sequel to the popular Angry Birds Star Wars that released last fall, will be coming to mobile devices on September 19. It was inevitable, but Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Episode 2: Attack of the Clones and Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith will be featured in the sequel. No word on whether Hayden Christensen will take time out of his busy schedule to make an annoying appearance…
New features, integration and characters will be making their way into the game. Some of those characters are Mace Windu (who throws a lightsaber) and Darth Maul (who swings around a double-bladed lightsaber).
In addition to new bird characters with new abilities, Angry Birds Star Wars 2 will feature integration with Hasbro's Telepods. This allows players to unlock new features in the game by placing the toy Telepods on top of their mobile device's camera. It will scan the Telepod, putting the character in the game to use, and it will allow you to customize your roster of birds to use for that level. There will be more than 30 Telepods figures available when the game launches.
As if that wasn't enough, there will be a new line of merchandise for Angry Birds Star Wars this September, including toys, clothes and other things. #BecauseitsAngryBirds
Rovio executive vice president of games Jami Laes said in a press statement, "Angry Birds Star Wars was a blockbuster hit for us and Lucasfilm with over 100 million downloads since its release. We are thrilled to be able to introduce the exciting next chapter in the Angry Birds Star Wars saga to our fans around the world. Some of the most amazing character additions are versions of young Anakin, Mace Windu and Darth Maul. Hasbor's Telepods technology also provides a great way to extend the experience beyond the app and bring a whole new dimension to the gameplay."
