The first Banner Saga was one of the early gaming success stories for Kickstarter. The tactical role-playing game began with a trio of former BioWare alums who became Stoic and created the game with the intention of it become a trilogy. The game combined consequence weighted choice mechanics and beautiful, if minimalistic, illustration.
The sequel has been touring the convention circuit and impressing plenty of people, however the publisher, Versus Evil has now confirmed that The Banner Saga 2 is indeed going to miss its previously vague 2015 release and is being pushed into 2016.
Given the fact there’s less than two months remaining in the year and no official release date had been announced up to this point, it doesn’t come as a surprise, however it is a disappointment for fans of the style.
Versus Evil spoke to GamesIndustry saying, "Banner Saga 2's development is progressing nicely. Customers who have attended Gamescom and PAX have seen its progress. We will update everyone on its launch date when the timing is right."
However, this also brings into question the announced and marketed, but now ghosted original Banner Saga that was supposed to be ported onto PS4. Dispelling rumors that the project had been shelved, the rep from Versus Evil continued, "The console ports of the Banner Saga are in full affect. We are currently wrapping up development for the first game now. The delays in the console is mainly game development fun, but also the team has spent time working on console specific controls to make it perform as a console game, more than just a port"
The Banner Saga 2 is slated to arrive on PS4, PC and XB1 at some point in 2016.
