The Batman trailer shows first look at Robert Pattinson in action

The Batman has been a film in the works for many, many years. So long, in fact, that we cycled through an entire Batman actor and director. But in 2019, the ball finally got rolling with a new cast and director.

While the film’s shooting was halted by COVID-19, enough was shot to piece together a trailer for The Batman. The trailer gives us a pretty incredible glimpse at the dark film which includes the Dark Knight absolutely destroying a man… possibly killing him. We also see Batman encounter a certain cat burglar and an intense grapple with the police.

The Batman is a reboot of the character, following a younger version of the World’s Greatest Detective. Robert Pattinson took over the role from Ben Affleck in 2019 after Affleck departed the role. The Batman v Superman star was set to write, direct, and star in the solo film but stepped down due to his divorce and struggles with alcoholism.

That said, Affleck surprised the world with a shocking return to the role earlier this week. Ben Affleck will suit up as Batman at least once more in The Flash movie alongside Michael Keaton. It’s believed this will be Affleck’s last time in the cape and cowl.

War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves took the reigns for Affleck in 2017. The acclaimed director looks to deliver one of the best on-screen versions of the Caped Crusader to date. The Batman will feature an ensemble of villains including The Penguin, The Riddler, and Catwoman.

Batman also has a new video game in the works from WB Montreal. The game, titled Gotham Knights, follows Red Hood, Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl after the death of Bruce Wayne. The game will see the group attempting to keep Gotham safe while solving a mystery surrounding Wayne’s death.

The Batman will release in theaters on October 1st, 2021.
