The Blob remake has found its director

It creeps and leaps and glides and slides across the floor

Until 10 minutes ago, I had no idea there was a remake of The Blob in the works. I can remember watching the 1958 classic horror/sci-fi film as a child. Yea my dad showed me that as a child… don't freak out… I turned out fine.

Goldcrest Films, who's co-producing the update, has gotten Simon West (The Mechanic, Expendables 2) to direct. Little fun fact: Jack H Harris, the producer of the 1958 The Blob, will be an executive producer on the film. Of Simon West, Pascal Degove, managing director of Goldcrest, said, "Simon West has a unique gift for blending cutting edge effects, awesome visual spectacle and a hint of humor. He's the perfect choice to re-imagine The Blob and we're so excited to be partnering with him."

The 1958 version of The Blob starred a young Steve McQueen as he and his girlfriend try to protect their hometown from a gelatinous alien life form that engulfs everything it touches. The Blob will undoubtedly be CGI, and West even said, "With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It's a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans."

As long as it has this song, I guess I'm in.
