The Book of Unwritten Tales returns with a prequel this December

Few people these days are adventure gamers, but The Book of Unwritten Tales might change how you feel about the genre.

We gave the point-and-click a 9 out of 10 back in August when it came to Steam, and now Nordic Games and King Art are releasing a prequel called The Critter Chronicles. That might not seem like a long gap for development, but the title actually came out first in Germany in 2009. It's received high marks from a number of gaming outlets.

The Critter Chronicles will release for PC, Mac, and Linux on December 5. The Book of Unwritten Tales is now available for all three platforms as well.

The prequel takes players back to when pirate Nate Bonnett met his sidekick Critter, and players can switch between the two in-game.

King Art has improved background animation and added facial expressions such as sound and lip movement, which was not seen in the original release of Unwritten Tales. New characters include an animal rights activist named Petra, a schizophrenic Yeti, and the Critters.
