The Castle Game will mix tower defense and action on PS4 this August

Developer Neptune Interactive's latest title, The Castle Game, will release on PS4 August 4. The action-infused tower defense title will also make its way to Wii U this spring.

Aptly named, The Castle Game is less about lining predetermined paths with turrets and instead doubles down on free-form structure design. Players must first design their castle before defending it from high fantasy hordes of warlocks, minotaurs, dragons and the like.

The Castle Game mixes escort missions into the mix as well, letting players blockade enemy paths while creating safe havens for allies to navigate. All structures are totally destructible and must be repaired, either manually or via hired engineers.

Indeed, units are as important as your towers. As Neptune wrote on the game’s official page, you’ll need to “train archers, knights, mercenaries, sorceresses, catapults and ballistae.” Powerful one-off spells such as Phoenix and Chaos will also be available. This will play out across 15 maps and three difficulty modes, all of which feature achievement and leaderboard support.
