Every morning before I left for middle school, I tuned in for reruns of Saved By The Bell. Zack Morris, Samuel "Screech" Powers, Lisa Turtle, A.C. Slater, Jessie Spano and every man's boyhood crush, Kelly Kapowski, helped raise me. They taught me important life lessons about love and relationships, gender equality, fashion, and pill addiction. They prepped me — along with millions of others my age — for life.
Let's be honest, like most things in the 90s, it was horrible. The acting was terrible, the episode plots were painfully cheesy, and I loved every part about it. Even now, years later, I find myself tuning in to the occasional rerun. It's like a bad game that you love to play only because of nostalgia. We all love Saved By The Bell because at the time we didn't realize how bad it actually was. And because of that, we die every time one of the former cast members brings it up.
Well last night, Jimmy Fallon not only brought most of the cast together, but he even participated in a recreation of a mock episode that parodies some of the show's most iconic moments. From Zack Morris' classic "time out" monologue to A.C. Slater's usage of the word "preppy," the cast recreates our favorite things about the show so well. Sure, they may be a little older and some of the cast skipped class (Dustin Diamond who played Screech and Lark Voorhies who played his love interest Lisa Turtle are not in it), but it's still a wonderful bit — if only because we get to see the cheesiest moments of the show recreated.
A.C. Slater in a leotard? Principal 'Big Bopper' Belding. Kelly Kapowski in a cheerleading outfit (albeit pregnant).
