Gwent, long thought and rumored to be in the making, was officially announced at E3 2016 earlier this summer alongside the news that the game would be running a closed beta in September. Unfortunately, that will no longer be the case. In an official, but brief press release, CD Projekt RED stated that they will be unable to meet the September 2016 deadline.
Here's the excerpt:
"At E3 we announced that we’d launch the Closed Beta of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game in September. Unfortunately, we feel we need some extra time with the game before we hand it off to you for testing. We know we can make a first impression only once, and want to be sure everything is ready before we blast off. Delivering a good game is more important to us than keeping a deadline. Still, that doesn’t mean we don’t realize that delays can be disappointing, and we apologize for making you wait. The Closed Beta will now begin on October 25th."
Delays are nothing new for games these days, especially given the increased budgets and added pressure of competing with other major titles, but at least this delay won't be very long. Plus, this gives you an extended amount of time to sign up for the Closed Beta, which you can do by heading over here.
