Warner Bros. and the CW network have released the first image of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman for the season two premiere of 'Supergirl'.
The path of CBS' Supergirl has been a rocky one, to say the least. During its first season, the ratings weren't necessarily soaring the way producers were hoping it would. After a crossover event where the CW's highly successful version of The Flash stopped by, the ratings for that one episode were the highest they've ever been. Using this new intel as incentive, the decision was made by Warner Bros. to move the series from CBS to its new home with the CW.
While fans of the show were more than ecstatic to hear it would in fact survive, the network decided to edge its bets by including one character that fans have been scratching their heads as to why he hasn't been included yet, despite all the gratuitous references: Kara's cousin, Superman. With the grueling hunt for an actor that can don the sacred mantle underway, they eventually found one in 'Teen Wolf' star Tyler Hoechlin. Now that the premiere of 'Supergirl' season two is just over two months away, the network has released the first image of Hoechlin as the Man of Steel himself:
It would seem that this version of Superman has taken on the more recognizable insignia from the 80's-90's. Taking a queue from Henry Cavill's Superman, this costume has also been optioned without the trademark "red underwear". The most noticable difference, however, is the sheer size of Hoechlin himself. It looks like between receiving the part and the start of filming, he wasn't alotted enough time to bulk up, meaning this Superman will have a leaner look than he rightfully should. It's still to be determined how he'll tackle the role, but we should be getting a taste when the CW finally drops the first trailer for the season premiere.
