In 2005, Christopher Nolan lit the world on fire with the start of his Batman trilogy. The director who had previously only done thrillers stepped into the early days of the superhero film genre and brought Batman out of a cinematic slump by approaching him in a different, more realistic way.
Nolan gave us a more grounded, yet still, comic-book-esque feeling with Batman Begins that fans really enjoyed but the trilogy made even bigger waves with the sequel, The Dark Knight. The Batman sequel is regarded as not only one of the best comic-book films of all time, but one of the best movies ever created thanks to its intense story, an Academy Award-winning performance from Heath Ledger as The Joker, and much more. The film set a new precedent for the genre.
The trilogy concluded with The Dark Knight Rises which is a bit more divisive but the overall consensus is that it's a good movie but maybe not a worthy conclusion to Nolan's Batman. Regardless, they're still hailed as achievements in filmmaking and now we're finally getting a 4K home video release next month! Nolan is a film purist, he doesn't like shooting digitally and he prefers that his movies be viewed on the biggest, loudest screen possible so he's made an effort to try and get a movie theater-like experience for people at home.
The trilogy is available in one complete bundle for $89.99 or you can purchase them individually for $24.99 each (prices seem to vary between retailers, we used Best Buy's prices). The 4K restorations will be available on December 19th. A 4K collection of seven Nolan films, including The Dark Knight trilogy, will release on the same day for $149.99. It includes Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. All movies will be available for purchase individually.
