The ‘Detective Pikachu’ movie has found its director, Rob Letterman

Legendary Pictures has announced that the upcoming live-action 'Detective Pikachu' movie is moving forward with Rob Letterman to direct.

The landscape of the Pokemon franchise has been noticably altered as of the 20th anniversary this year. From the launch of Pokemon GO, to the release of the latest versions for the 3DS, Sun and Moon, there seems to be a newfound love for the title among devoted fans and newcomers alike. With all the hype surrounding Pokemon, it seems only logical that talks of live-action movies would start to flourish.

With Legendary Pictures having finally acquired the movie rights to Pokemon, the first venture is, admittedly, an odd choice, but exciting all the same. An adaptation of the Japanese exclusive spin-off game, 'Detective Pikachu', is underway and, after an arduous search, has found its director in Rob Letterman.

Letterman is best known for helming such hit childrens' movies as 'Goosebumps', 'Shark Tale', and 'Monsters vs. Aliens', so it seems only appropriate to take the reigns for arguably the most novel approach to a live-action Pokemon movie. The game centered on Pikachu acting as a parody of sorts to Sherlock Holms with his young human companion in tow. There's no word yet on a cast or plot details for this version of the story as its still very early into production, so stick with us to keep up with the project's development.
