Over the last few weeks, Bethesda has referred to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim patch as update 1.2. Until today, everything we heard was Skyrim patch 1.2. In fact, even Bethesda's VP of Marketing and PR Pete Hines referred to it as "1.2 update for Skyrim".
So when today's patch went live on PlayStation 3 you can imagine the confusion when PlayStation 3 users saw update 2.01 on their console. How could they make the jump from 1.1 to 2.01? Fear not, the answer is simple.
"Different platforms may see different version numbers," Hines explained to a confused fan.
In other words, update 1.2 and 2.01 are the exact same. As long as you have one of them, you have the proper update. As for what version the Xbox 360 and PC will see, we'll have to wait until Wednesday, November 30th to find out – as that is the estimated release date for those platforms.
Bethesda released the official patch notes for the recent update, which can be found here. Some notable changes include improved performance issues as a result of long-term play. Many PS3 users were sufferent from horrendous lag issues due to extremely large save file sizes. Hopefully all is fixed now.
