The first trailer for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is here and it’s awesome

My father is a huge fan of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., the 1960s TV series starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum. It follows two agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, who use charm, wit and gadgets to take down bad guys. It ran for four years and 105 episodes. It's a show my father loves dearly, so it's natural that he would be weary of a modern movie adaptation.

Hopefully the trailer for Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. that released today will take away all of his worries. Co-written and directed by Ritchie, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) as Solo and Kuryakin. And they look like they have a ton of chemistry from the trailer. The trailer captures the look and feel of the TV series, while mixing a good amount of serious action with a playful tone. The film also stars Alicia Vikander, Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Debicki and Jared Harris.

Here's the synopsis for The Man From U.N.C.L.E.:

Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. centers on CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin. Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. The duo’s only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. opens in theaters on August 14, 2015.
