The Flash movie loses second director in a year

The Flash could see a delay

The first live action feature film for The Flash is set to release in 2018, hot off the heals of Justice League, but it could see a delay due to production issues. Director Rick Famuyima has dropped out of the project after Warner Bros. and Famuyima couldn't see eye to eye on the project.

“When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day. I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor,” Famuyima said in a statement. “I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.”

It sounds as if Famuyima departed on good terms, but it is worrying for the film as he's the second director that has been attached and left the film. Seth Grahame-Smith was the first director on the project but left before the film went into pre-production. Famuyima has walked away during pre-production of the film which makes it much more complicated to replace him as the film is probably going to go into full production very soon.

Ben Affleck's The Batman is rumored to release in October 2018 and has been confirmed to begin production next summer and The Flash is set to release in March 2018 so realistically they would have to begin production sometime between now and spring of 2017.

This may also spark concern for DC films as a whole as Wonder Woman suffered a similar issue during production. The film lost its initial director and then went on to pick Patricia Jenkins for the directors chair, but there are rumors that the film isn't quite up to snuff.

Fox/Marvel are having similar issues on Deadpool 2 as director Tim Miller left to join the Sonic the Hedgehog film after having creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.

Ezra Miller's Flash will next appear in Justice League which is set to release on November 17th, 2017.
