The Gambit solo film may start filming in spring 2017

A few years ago, a solo film for the popular yet somewhat obscure X-Men member, Gambit, was greenlit at Fox. Big stars like Channing Tatum became attached to the film and the film was rumored to have several script rewrites but the movie never actually went into production. The film has had several delays and word about the film has been awfully silent as of late.

Speaking with The Hashtag Show, X-Men produce Simon Kinberg said that the film is not dead and they hope to start shooting soon.  “We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning of spring of next year,”

Doug Liman is still attached to direct after signing on when Rupert Wyatt walked away from the film after scheduling conflicts. Hopefully the film can begin production next year and move out of development hell.

No plot details are known about the Gambit film, but one can only assume it's an origin story since we haven't seen the character appear in any of the cannon X-Men films. For those unfamiliar with the card wielding X-Man, he is a mutant from the south who posses abilities that allow him to use kinetic energy against his enemies. His main weapons are playing cards and a staff which he combines with his mutant ablities to add some extra power to them.
