Just today, the Golden Joystick Awards, presented by Green Man Gaming, announced that Ken Levine will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. If you’re unfamiliar with Ken Levine, he is the mastermind behind System Shock 2 as well as the BioShock series – that’s including this year’s massive hit BioShock Infinite. Levine is also the creative director and co-founder of Irrational Games.
Since the original BioShock sold over five-million units, won multiple ‘game of the year’ awards, and is the highest-rated first person shooter of all time – this award has been coming. BioShock Infinite has already won 88 awards and sold more than four million units. In the Golden Joystick Awards’ 31 years of history, never have they given out a lifetime achievement award to a single individual.
On the announcement of this award, Levine commented:
“In most fields, people begin their careers being inspired by others. In turn, they hopefully end up inspiring others. The great thing about the still-maturing nature of video games is you get to be inspired by the work of novices and veterans alike. We're all figuring out day by day exactly what the medium is capable of.”
The Golden Joystick Awards will go down this Friday, October 25th. You’re opportunity to vote is winding down, get on it HERE and contribute!
