The HTC Vive VR headset will sell for $799

The HTC Vive will cost $799. The news comes to us from a leak preceding Barcelona’s upcoming Mobile World Congress event, UploadVR reports, and puts the Vive a full $200 above the Oculus Rift.

Much of the Vive’s higher price stems from its included peripherals. The SteamVR-powered headset will ship with two controllers (one for each hand), copies of VR-made titles Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption, and movement-tracking stations which monitor your position. The Vive also features native Bluetooth support and an internal microphone.

Meanwhile, $599 Oculus Rift kits include copies of EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale, an Xbox One controller and streaming tools for Windows 10. The lack of body tracking in Rift games affords it a considerably lower price point than the Vive, but also gives it comparatively limited functionality.

If you’re for team Vive, you can lock in your headset when pre-orders open up Monday, February 29.

With price points for the Vive and Rift out in the open, all that’s left is for Sony to reveal PlayStation VR’s point of entry. With any luck, VR enthusiasts won’t wait long: earlier this month, GameSTOP CEO Paul Raines hinted that PlayStation VR will launch this fall
