The United States has won a small battle in the cold war between the US and North Korea, as The Interview will be shown at select theaters on Christmas Day.
We haven't commented much on the whole situation involving Sony, North Korea and The Interview. Personally, I don't think the movie is going to be that great or funny. That said, I think it's ridiculous that North Korea would get up in arms over a film. Of course, the country is run by a mad man who has a bromance with Dennis Rodman, so I'm going to guess that his mental stability isn't too great.
Anywho, Tim League, owner of the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas confirmed on Twitter that they will have Christmas Day showings of The Interview. Also on Facebook, Plaza Atlanta wrote, "The Interview will open Exclusive Atlanta on 12/25. The Plaza will be one of the few theaters in the nation to open the film.
In addition to this, The Wrap is reporting that Sony will release the film on video-on-demand systems, though which ones aren't clear.
"We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we're excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day," Sony Entertainment chair and CEO Michael Lynton said in a statement. "At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience. I want to thank our talent on The Interview and our employees, who have worked tirelessly through the many challenges we have all faced over the last month. While we hope this is only the first step of the film's release, we are proud to make it available to the public and have stood up to those who attempted to surpass free speech."
