The invasion begins with Sony’s new trailer for Pixels

I fee like it's been a long time since I've seen a good Adam Sandler movie. But if the trailer for Sony Pictures' new Pixels film is any indication, his recent streak of box office flops could be coming to an end… As could Earth.

In the new film, aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them and, well, attack the Earth using their games as models for their various assaults. It's a silly premise, but I wouldn't expect anything less from a movie whose cast includes Adam Sandler (Grown Ups, Happy Gilmore), Kevin James (King of Queens, Paul Blart: Mall Cop), Michelle Monaghan (True Detective, Source Code), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Josh Gad (Frozen).

When the aliens invade, President Will Cooper (James) calls on his childhood best friend and 80's video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), to lead a team of old-school arcade gamers to defeat the aliens and save the planet.

It's not a bad cast, though they've each had their fair share of flops. And while I have my doubts, it still looks entertaining — if only for the fact that it involves video games. I'm willing to give it a chance.

Pixels is set to hit theaters on July 24.
