The Joker origin movie in the works with Martin Scorsese; No Jared Leto

Interesting...

The DCEU is a bit… controversial for moviegoers. Some hate it so much they avoid it like the plague and others love it to death and can't wait to see how the universe unfolds with movies centered around iconic characters like Batman. However you feel about DC's movie universe, we have some news that may intrigue you.

Reputable source Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Warner Bros. is considering an alternate DC films franchise filled with one-off stories. This would act similarly to DC's Elseworld stories in the comics where it's a bunch of stories that have no connection to the canon. The only difference is that this would flesh out the DCEU  to an extent by giving background stories for characters and what not.

One film being considered for this new "universe" is a origin story for The Joker. The film is being written by The Hangover's Todd Phillip's and 8 Mile's Scott Silver, Phillips will direct and will be backed by Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street director Martin Scorsese who will produce.

Deadline reports that the intention with the Joker film is "to make an origin story that isn’t part of any other iteration." Leto will not star in this version of the role but is still set to appear in Suicide Squad 2 and the Harley Quinn spin-off. That makes it sound like it'll potentially be unconnected to Leto's Joker and will just be a Joker movie viewers can enjoy regardless of their background with the character and DCEU.

The movie will reportedly be a grounded, gritty crime movie set in Gotham City during the early 1980s. WB wants the picture to feel more like a Scorsese flick rather than a DC movie, giving it a unique feel and wider appeal.

The movie has no official title or release window but it does show that Warner Bros. has ambitious plans for the future of their iconic characters.
