The Last of Us is one of 2013's most highly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusives. Fortunately, I've had some decent hands-on time with the game, so I can attest that its campaign will be an intense, emotional experience. But how long will it last? Technically, that's a mixed question because, like all games, it depends on the pace of your play. Naughty Dog, however, estimates 12 to 16 hours.
“We’re definitely looking at more than 12 hours, maybe 12 to 16 right now is what we’re looking at,” Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer explained in a video interview with EvolveEnt. “It really depends on how you play. You can play a little bit slower if you try to approach situations stealthy, if you really want to explore the environment and scavenge, that’s going to add more time too. We're really giving you a flexibility on how much content you can explore.”
I know for me, personally, I explored every nook and cranny in the game — really taking my time and appreciating the marvelous world Naughty Dog has created. The environment, although linear, encourages you to explore and scavenge for supplies that may become useful in your journey across the apocalyptic region.
Meyer also explained that all DLC for The Last of Us will be multiplayer focused. We don't quiet yet know what the multiplayer portion of The Last of Us will consist of, but Naughty Dog has teased it "is going to be awesome."
The Last of Us is due out on June 14, 2013 after a brief delay. A demo for the game, which came with God of War: Ascension, and will go live on May 31, 2013.
