Naughty Dog has released a second developer diary for their upcoming game The Last of Us. While the first video focused on the Infected and explored their unpredictable nature, today's video looks at what went into the concept and design of the world and environments in The Last of Us.
"The Last of Us really has been a story of contrast. It's some pretty dark themes, but their juxtaposed against an aesthetic that we find very beautiful," notes creative director Neil Druckmann. As someone who has played early builds of The Last of Us, I found the environment to be fascinating. Despite the dark tones of an apocalyptic world, The Last of Us takes a different approach from most end-of-world games. Rather than traditional grays and browns, the environments in The Last of Us are overgrown with lush vegetation, sprinkling in some hints of a civilization that used to be.
Naughty Dog's next video will explore the crafting and scavenging gameplay mechanics. As always, we'll be sure to keep you updated.
